The West London NHS Mental Health Trust has chosen Xscape as part of the refurbishment of the Secure Unit at St Bernard's Hospital, Southall. Safety and security considerations were paramount when deciding on the equipment to be used in the facility upgrade. The addressable and fully intelligent self-testing system in the Secure Unit can also be integrated into the main Trend building automation system, providing full monitoring of the status of each luminaire from a remote location.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
The Xscape series from Illuminex offers considerable savings in testing, labour, use 98% less energy and have no significant end of life disposal issues (they do not contain heavy metals such as mercury or cadmium found in other products emergency lighting products such as fluorescent tubes and NiCad batteries.) Their ‘green’ credentials are unrivalled. With 60,000 hours of high light output of clear white light, they are giving the green light to the public sector

INTELLIGENT MONITORING
Xscape has integrated intelligent automatic selftesting with infra-red link to hand-held data collection units. Each light unit is addressable and fully intelligent, self-testing at the prescribed intervals defined by BS5266 automatically, saving considerable labour costs throughout the working life of the system.
Available is a centrally monitored self-test for large installations and to save on the many man-hours being expended each month, visually inspecting the luminaires for fault LED’s, there is a networking module which can be integrated into the luminaire.

EMERGENCY LIGHTING LEGISLATION
In 2006 BS 5266-1:2005 made the owner or occupier of public buildings and commercial premises responsible for ensuring an emergency lighting system keeps working if mains power to the building fails. Depending on the system, “a regime of daily, monthly and annual testing of every single luminaire in the system is required, with accurate records being kept of each inspection and test.” The standard requires “lights and exit signs must be checked every day, and both maintained and nonmaintained units operated on battery only, typically for 10 minutes every month, and, depending upon the designed standby period, for one or three hours every year.”

LATEST “GREEN” HIGH EFFICIENCY BALLAST SAVES UP TO 50% IN ENERGY COSTS
Have you every counted the number of fluorescent lamps operating night and day in hospitals, hotels, airports, shopping centres, offices and railway stations?
Now there is a range of electronic Ecologic ballast that will dramatically reduce power consumption from 15% to 50%, even saving up to 70% are achievable.
Ecologic can be fitted onto existing fluorescent lighting systems saving up to half of the energy costs by levelling out the fluctuations in the electrical current supplied to a circuit. Kevin Coffey, Managing Director, Illuminex, comments: “Rising energy prices coupled with a greater awareness of environmental issues means that products such as Ecologic and Ecolite will become increasingly relevant to companies looking to reduce the impact of electricity bills on their balance sheets as well as their carbon footprint on the planet.
"SAVINGS UP TO 50% OF LIGHTING ENERGY COSTS
AND ALSO UP TO 50% ON MAINTENANCE COSTS NO
NEED TO REPLACE LIGHT FITTINGS OR UPGRADE
TO T5 LAMPS DOUBLE THE LIFE OF FLUORESCENT
LAMPS AND IT IMPROVES THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT"
GUARANTEED TO SAVE ENERGY
Lighting is responsible for approximately 25% of the total electricity consumed. The Ecologic range of energy efficient fluorescent lamp control ballasts provides a cost effective solution in the drive towards energy conservation and the reduction in CO² into the atmosphere – now widely recognised as the main cause of global warming. Each Ecologic ballast has three lumen output settings Low, Medium and High representing an output level factor of 0.8, 1.0 and 1.12 respectively.
This allows the user to reduce energy consumption still further our boost lumen levels without the need to add or replace current lighting fixtures.
