78 homes, 33 part equity and 45 for social rent, have been built on a tough site between the Westfield shopping mall and terraced houses. Eight thin fingers of housing abut the brick wall at right angles. Each home has dual aspect of morning and afternoon sun in spite of the mall wall., Four 4-storey blocks have private rear gardens . Flats have balconies and upper floor maisonettes have roof gardens either notched into the building line or terraced over cantilvered apartments. Colours are bold and trees will soften noise in time in a gas-fired scheme that has a combined heat and power source financed from savings arising from a fast module construction system.
