NHBC OFFERS THE HOUSE-BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY A HIGH QUALITY AND COMPREHENSIVE RANGE OF ACOUSTIC SERVICES, PROVIDED BY EXPERIENCED ACOUSTIC CONSULTANTS AND TECHNICIANS. WE PROVIDE SPECIALIST PRE-COMPLETION SOUND INSULATION TESTING (PCT) TOGETHER WITH SPECIALIST ACOUSTIC CONSULTANCY ADVICE.

Pre-completion testing
Our Pre-Completion Sound Insulation Testing determines whether new or newly-converted homes and buildings comply with Approved Document E (2003 Edition) of the Building Regulations 2000. Our service is fully UKAS accredited which means that it has been assessed against internationally recognised standards to demonstrate our competence, impartiality and performance capability.

Building acoustics
NHBC Acoustic Services has a specialist Building Acoustics capacity offering the following services:

Pre-build environmental noise and vibration survey
This will:
- Provide the developer with the noise categorisation of the site in accordance with Planning Policy Guidance Note 24 'Planning and Noise' (PPG24)
- Enable the façade specification (such as glazing and ventilation details) to be determined so that the appropriate internal noise levels within dwellings, specified by the planning authority, can be achieved.

Consultancy advice
This covers:
- Identifying inherent acoustic deficiencies at the design stage
- providing suitable recommendations so that the design will have the potential to comply with the Building Regulations
- Provision of design guidance for mixed use schemes.

Remedial advice
- Should any of the tests fail to comply with the Building Regulations, we can offer remedial advice. We can also carry out site inspections during the remedial work to monitor workmanship.

Noise at Work
- Monitoring employees' and contractors' exposure to noise to ensure the developer complies with the regulations under the Noise at Work Regulations 2005.
- Provision of appropriate noise control advice, where appropriate, to conform with the regulatory levels.

Construction noise and vibration monitoring
- Monitoring of site noise and vibration levels to demonstrate that the developer complies with local authority planning conditions relating to nearby residences.
- Assistance with developing a noise and vibration control strategy for the site, where the target noise levels from construction activities are exceeded.
